From the Statistical department's report 2012, the urban average income is RM5,742 while rural is RM3,080 which are pretty decent figures to survive in 2014. The Poverty line being at RM830 per month (didn't jaga / guards use to earn less than this?).
Lets see, a simple household with 2 adults and 2 children where only the father works 20 days per month, would spent about the following (approx);

Which comes to RM2,850 and they will get through until secondary school, one can imagine borrowing RM12 per month. Or one could use the figures at Numbeo to break down into more detail.
