Attack at Army Public School in Peshawar, Pakistan

The attack that left 166 dead and of which 132 were children demonstrates intensity of hatred and voilence by terrorist in Pakistan. Its not clear how many gunmen raided the Army Public School, in Peshawar, Pakistan. Reports show that the Taliban leaders have been identified ( see Daily Mail ). Image of the murders just before their attack, as provided by the Daily Mail UK. With their further announcement to attack other schools, it is hope that Pakistan will take terrorism more seriously.

Vatican call to condem terrorism

Its nice to hear the Catholic Church doing lots of work for peace, with the most recent by Pope Francis (See Malaysian newspapers, TheSun on 2 Dec 2014). Its really challenging to fight the tides for these leader to bring peace. For example, due to opportunistic attacks, Pope Benedict speech in 2006 at University of Regensburg was totally turned around to make it seem like it was an anti-Islam speech. Excerpt of the speech is below; The twisting of this speech led to mass protest around the world, and one article explained, AsiaNews.it on 15 Nov 2006 . Strange that calls for peace are met with obstacles but, widespread koran verses like Sūrah 2, 191-193, in which Muslims are urged to kill those guilty of al-fitnah (sedition) doesn't seem to find itself short of followers. Its fitting that the Pope made his speech in a university, will religious scholars be less quite on attempts to bring unity and peace around the world?

Malaysian Unity: the core of national peace and prosperity

Malaysia is a population of 667.4% Bumiputera, 24.6% chinese, and remainder of various ethnics. The term unity would be to bring together as one or to be united. Unfortunately the government backed Perkasa have plans to redefine the meaning of unity. In the Malay Mail, 23.11.2014 its reported that a memorandum is being issued to form a "core group" of malay-muslim for a national unity council. Can't help but feel offended by the government support for these group of people and worry about the future of Malaysia, a place I call home. As I recall, so far in Malaysia to promote unity we have National Unity Consultative Council ( NUCC ) and Malaysian Consultative Council of Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Sikhism and Taoism ( MCCBCHST ). To those who are doing something about protecting the nation from further divide, make haste while doing it in a peaceful manner. Do not support voilence!

Paper publish TOL increase in Cameron Highlands

A major landslide and flooding in Cameron Highlands have triggered questions on how the land is being protected. In New Straits Times, 17.11.2014 it says there is an increase of licensed land between 2003 and 2012. Yet, these Temporary Occupation Licences or TOL are said to be frozen since 2001. Its good if there is a balance between development, sustainability and tourism. Tasik Cini, Genting and all other land must be given focus on enforcement and relevant department audited frequently. There really isn't much the public can do except watch at how much the government will expose in its findings. Excuses such as National Forestry Act 1984 and Land Conservation Act 1960 needing amendments does not explain the mismanagement of Malaysia's resources. its also a wierd and questionable action to station MACC officers at Cameron Highlands.

Halloween in Catholic culture?

When the local media raised this issue, it only then struck me to look it up. http://www.catholicculture.org/culture/liturgicalyear/overviews/months/10_2.cfm Somebody mixed a celtic culture with catholic, it seems. One parent is taking this positively. http://www.catholic.com/blog/jon-sorensen/halloween-or-samhain

MH17 - German indicates plane down by BUK

It seems rather long, and when winter sets in, access to the MH17 crash site would be impossible as news reports say its due to the snow. German intelligence confirmation that the Malaysian MH17 was shot down by BUK missiles support the initial findings by the Dutch that rebels in Ukraine shot the plane down. AFP on 20th Oct 2014 news Germany says Ukraine rebels downed MH17 with seized missiles: report Will Germany still be the only one to make the call for Russia to be strip of hosting FIFA 2018? Some may recall, Germany immediate response to the MH17 incident when all indications pointed to the Russia backed rebels as the aggressor. The Telegraph, UK news Russia should be stripped of World Cup after MH17 attack, say German politicians Until today, there are no information about contents of the black box handed over to Malaysia. It could be a legal thing, but its taking forever to get any news on this.

Presentation Slide Mistakes to Avoid

In Malaysia, presentation slides are very common in all type of organisation and events, and a few have made great impact on people. Those slides that work great had something special for their audience, what was it? Is there an angel to why some presentations are great besides the presenter skills. A good place to find out is to identify from the not so ok slides what didn't work. 1. Sleepy bullet points Have you seen slides deck totally filled with only bullet points? Oh yes, some were not circles, they were diamonds and squares. It helps to put an order to follow for the presenter. I love having ideas displayed in points forms but lets not over do it. As a rule of thumb, do not exceed 6 bullets per slide, 2 bullets is best. Limit number of slides having list of bullets. 2. Exceeded Rule-of-3 There are lots that a presenter wants to convey to the audience but most will only be able to catch some before everything becomes fuzzy. Presenting the annual expenditure, propo...
